Hi ya,

Just built a new rig and getting a strange error.

I have a ASUS P5W and Artic freezer 7 pro, When booting up
I get CPU FAN ERROR press F1 to continue?

anyone know what causes this error.

is it on the cpu slot or the pwm slot, make sure its on the cpu slot

is it on the slot fully, not 1 pin offset

if bothe the top two are true, try an old fan, make sure u havnt buggared your board, then think about weather your fan is falty

I had the same problem with another Asus board a while back; fan was turning, temps were fine but kept getting warning message.

I can't remember exactly how I sorted it but I'm pretty sure there's an option in the BIOS to disable fan warnings during POST.

Try to find that and see if it helps (remember to keep your eye on temps for a while just in case) - I'm pretty sure that's what I did.

Just been on the Arctic-cooloing web site... Should have looked there first..lol
they say>
The BIOS of some mainboard manufacturers compares the speed of the fan with a specified value. If the fan speed does not match the specified value, either the PC emits a warning or switches off. Contrary to the temperature control, the RPM control is of no importance, since fan speeds will be between 500 and 7000 RPM depending o*n the type of fan. This RPM control can de deactivated in the BIOS settings. Please consult your mainboard manufacturer for more information regarding these settings.

Asus web site don't say nothing.

I will do what you said and turn the warming off. The temp been stable

Glad to have been of service :D

I didn't know why there was a problem but I sussed out how to stop it - that's good enough for me. Nice find though - at least it explains it.

I did a bit of searching on the net and it seems to be a common problem but no real answer to whats causing it?

some get the error and some like achitophel don't

i can help with this one :) becuase the fan is a high quality after market fan , its is designed to run at a slower speed than a normal fan. Motherboards produce errors when the fan speed is below what they think is acceptible , i think on ASUS its 800 RPM ? The thing is the cooler doesnt need to speed up so it wont , then the motherboard sees the slow speed and complains;
