I have problems on my new build PC with the rear speakers which do not operate in 4 or 6 channel mode using the onboard sound.
I have a 6 speaker setup, 2 front, 2 rear, one centre and a woofer. The speakers are correctly configured in the software detection routines. Realtek drivers are current (5.10.00.5247), It's also windows XP Pro SP2 fully patched.
If I select 6 channel, or even 4 channel sound, I hear nothing out of the rear speakers. If I select 8 channel sound, (without rewiring) the rear speakers output OK. That suggests to me the motherboard and wiring connections are not at fault. I thus suspect a driver / software configuration problem but I can't lay my finger on it. I can't find anything on the Realtek or Asus websites.
Anyone got any ideas (apart from buying 2 more speakers, or a proper soundcard )
TIA.
