Asus P5WD2-E Premium Motherboard with Intel Pentium 4 940 Dual Core "LGA775 Presler" 3.2GHz

Can any one tell me whats the cheapest better compatable memory for the following setups:

2GB [overclocking]
4GB [overclocking]
8GB [overclocking]

Also any ideas about good quiet Heatpipe CPU Cooler that will fit the above [not passive]

Any DDR2-533 Ram will be fine as a budget option as that will give you up to a 1066FSB which with a lower CPU multiplier can give a good overclock. Make sure you only get matched pairs though as Dual Channel operation on the 775 gives the max mem bandwidth. The 2GB Corsair DDR2-533 Value Select OCUK sell is perfect for your needs.

Believe it or not these 775 intel mobos can take any combination of DDR2 ram even if mismatched they still work perfectly just not @ the optimal speed.

Decent DDR2-800 Ram would be the best for performance & also future proof for a while yet so if you can afford that it would be the best ocing option if money is no object. On these 775 Intel mobos does not matter how much Ram you have as the ocing result is the same although you do realise that only XP64 can use more than 3.5GB. XP32 can only really address 3.5GB and TBH anything over 2GB is overkill @ the moment unless you run a server.

Anyway you cannot easily get DDR2 modules which are above 1GB each and I believe this mobo only has 4 x DDR2 slots ( I have the same model without the wifi tv card). Also check very carefully whatever Ram you decide to get as Asus 775 mobos do not apparently run with DDR2 ram sticks which contain 128MB chips & or 16 per side per module.
Read your mobo manual very carefully as it is well hidden in small print near the mem compatibility matrix chart.

Zalman 9500 is the best heatpipe cooler I have ever used and will keep your CPU both cool & silent. Even for ocing it will still do an excellent job.

So could 2 different 533mhz chips be mixed and run dual channel at 500mhz maybe or would it be 400 I suppose
