Hi All,

I've purchased a Asus p6t and i7 920 (D0 stepping) and im trying to overclock it. However, a lot of the bios settings are new to me as im upgrading from a fairly old PC which didn't have half of these settings.

Anyway, the setting which im most confused about is "Intel Turbo Mode". I set the bus speed to 180 because i thought the multiplier was 20. Which would give me a speed of 3.6Ghz. However, in CPU-Z i notice it's reporting the multiplier as 12 which gives me 2.1Ghz. Im so confused. Sometimes the multiplier changes.

I notice a lot of sites recommend leaving Turbo mode disabled. But wouldn't this mean that the multiplier is stuck at 12 ?

Can somebody advice me pls ????

Thanks in advance :)

Intel CPUs have had power saving features built in for years now - they reduce multiplier on idle to save power. If you want to turn them off, you need to look for SpeedStep and C1E, although there's no reason to really.

Turbo mode, as above, increases the multi to 21x on heavy load, and is a kind of factory approved overclocking....although I have to switch it off on mine because it can't take it with the OC I run.

there are 100s of threads all over ocuk and the internet explaing how to get the best overclock from your i7 system, lots of videos also..use google..go check on youtube or extremesystems;)

If you've set the BCLK & Multiplier manually, then there's no option to enable Turbo Mode.

As reflux notes, it's SpeedStep that is reducing the multiplier when idle.
