ASUS P6T - best BIOS settings to lower CPU fan sensitivity ?

I've recently built an i7 system (see sig below), based around an ASUS P6T motherboard.

Currently, when I use the scroll wheel on my mouse, I can hear the CPU fan (stock Intel i7 920 fan/cooler) increase in speed momentarily. It has the effect of 'revving' the fan, rather like you might do to a car engine !

I've tried selecting some of the different fan settings using Fan Xpert (via AI Suite) but it doesn't seem to make much difference.

NB. When changing the fan settings, I sometimes get an 'EPU-6 Engine cannot run under overclocking mode' warning message (I'm running some Corsair RAM at 1600MHz via XMP - would this cause that message ?)

Does anyone know what BIOS settings I could change to alter this sensitivity ? It does seem a bit OTT ! (CPU temp is around 40oC at idle, so heat isn't a problem)

The system, with the quiet ASUS 4870 (fitted with Dark Knight cooler) in the Antec 300 case, is extremely quiet otherwise, so this excess fan noise is more of an annoyance than anything else.

Cheers.

Have to say i'm with you on the noise issue generally.
Built an i7 system myself recently, like you, using the P6T and this issue strikes me as a weird one.I tend not to use the windows utilities for overclocking/fan speeds and prefer to use the bios.
As for fan speeds i would use the Q-fan option in the bios and set it to silent...always done the trick for me.Failing that you could always undervolt any fans that are too loud at 5 or 7V although i wouldn't recommend that for the cpu fan.
As for 'EPU-6 Engine cannot run under overclocking mode' i've had this too. From my experience it is very easily triggered so altering the ram using XMP i'd say would definately be the cause.

Just out of interest, what kind of board temps are you getting? Have seen mine go to 60C when gaming and it seems i'm not alone.Keep being told it's nothing to worry about but never having had a board go so high i'm a little uncomfortable with it to say the least.

Thanks for the reply - I'll try the settings in the BIOS as you suggest.

In terms of other fans, I've got the Antec 300 case fans set on low so they're effectively silent and definitely aren't the cause of the problem, as I've not yet got them connected to the P6T fan ports.

I've only played Bioshock so far and I don't remember seeing board temps as high as 60oC, although I was more concerned with CPU and GPU temps at the time - I'll check next time and let you know.

I tried changing the Q-Fan setting to Silent' in the BIOS and it's made no difference to my 'mouse wheel revving the CPU fan' issue.

If anything, the PC now sounds slightly louder in general use than when it was on standard, which is odd.

Does anyone else with a P6T have the similar issues ?
