Asus P6X58D-E causing squealing in PSU

I got this motherboard about 6 weeks ago, but noticed it was making a lot of squealing noises. It got worse, but then I discovered that it wasn't actually making any squealing noises itself, but they were coming from my PSU (the Antec Earthwatts 500W I got with my Sonata III case), especially during disk access (on both my usual SSD and a Velociraptor).

I made sure it was the PSU by rolling up a sheet of paper into a tube, putting it in my ear and then then listening close up to the mobo, PSU and other parts. Great trick for isolating the source of such noises!

I replaced the PSU with a Corsair TX650 (needed a bit more oomph for the graphics card I recently got), but it was still squealing away horrendously, even during idle.

Then searching the internets I read about how somebody disabling C1E Enhanced Halt State in BIOS stopped the squealing they were experiencing, so I tried it and it worked for me.

But why should C1E cause this squaling in my PSU?

And are my electricity bills going to go through the roof because I now have it disabled?

I very much doubt your electricity is going to go up rofl

Ironically, nPower put my leccy unit rate up by 60% this week, so your statement is incorrect ;)

Anyway, I thought the C1E helped reduce power consumption by throttling back the CPU when idle? Though I guess it might just be a case of using 80w instead of 125w or whatever. So I completely understand your mockery... I just wasn't thinking straight having had a head full of buzzing noises... mostly from my PSU. Mostly.
