The P7P55D-E has two onboard sata controllers.

a J-Micron Sata, and a Marvel Sata 3 controller.

It says in the manual that if raid is enabled, then all drives become part of the raid array.

Does this mean if I have a two disk Raid 1 array for data storage though the J-Micron controller, I can't put an SSD through the Marvel controller for an OS without having it part of the raid array?

My logical brain says... manual says no.

Any ideas chaps?

The 2 controllers on the P7P55D-E are the Intel ICH10R (SATA3) and the Marvell SATA 6Gb/s, both controllers operate independently, ie., if you setup RAID1 on the ICH10R, you can put another HDD/SSD on the Marvell and run it in AHCI mode (as the mode that this cont operates in is a different setting in the BIOS from that of the Intel ICH10R). I would only use the Marvell cont for an SSD if it is SATA6, if it is SATA3, I would simply put it on the ICH10R...

That's what I thought.

However, in BIOS I can only find a setting for SATA Mode (auto / ACHI / RAID).

I can't find a setting for each controller.

This will be for the Intel ICH10R, see section 3.4, 3.4.1, 3.4.2 of your manual.

For Marvell configuration see section 3.6.3 of manual...
