Asus P87VV-V LX - No boot

I've trying to swap my dads system to a new motherboard, he got a Asus P87VV-V LX and I get power to the motherboard, can play with the GPU boost switch but shorting the power pins nothing happens, plug the power switch from the case in and still nothing.

Not even getting partial fan spin.
Tried everything like one stick of RAM etc. Plug in the old motherboard and it boots up fine.

The CPU is a 2600 if that helps.

extra power next to the cpu socket connected?

Yep done that, it's a brand new PSU going in too.

must be the board if everything else works in the older board.

My thoughts too. The only reason for change is that the OEM motherboard won't let us use a GPU above a nvidia 6*** series. Have you got any idea why this would be? It just hangs on boot

It probably doesnt have a BIOS new enough to "see" anything newer in the slot.

The Giga Z77-D3H is famous for needing a BIOS update to see new cards that came out after it.
