Hi All,

I recently finished building my SB system with the following specs:

Corsair TX 650W PSU
Asus P8H67M motherboard
Intel i5 2500k
Corsair 2x2G CL8 memory (run at 1.5v so get CL9)

I'm seeing some random freezes when using the computer - mouse doesn't move, can't type anything - basically the entire system is unusable and the only way to get it back is to do a hard reset.

I've read about some of the issues people are seeing with the Asus P8P67 boards, but does this problem also manifest on the H67 boards - would it be an idea to RMA it and go with a Gigabyte?

I'm having the exact same problems with a P8H67M-Pro.

The system locks up randomly while on the desktop/in standard applications. Never had any issues in 3D or fullscreen content though, which is interesting.

I get the occasional BSOD. Rebooting the system just results in it locking up between the "Starting Windows..." bit and seeing the desktop. I've tried all sorts of ways to fix it and all three occasions so far (since launch week) it's resulted in me having to hop in to "Safe Mode", back everything up and then reinstall Windows. Three times in three months is no fun...

Occasionally I get a message at POST telling me my overclock has failed and I need to reset the settings in the BIOS. It's a H67 board, there is no overclock. Saving then resetting solves the problem, with no settings changed.

I wasn't sure what was causing the problem, but I'm getting the impression from other posts I've seen that it's the motherboard. Will send it back to the place I bought it ASAP and get them to swap it out for something else.

Good to see (well, not really, but you know what I mean!) someone else with an Asus H67 board having problems. I've had the "failed overclock" message too despite not doing any overclocking.

I've just taken delivery of a Gigabyte P67 board (the UD3) so hopefully that will work better once installed. I'm just worried that the online shop I purchased it from will try and say they can't find an issue with the board because I've had a few days of no problems.

I've suffered MFT corruption on my RAID array though and lost a few files, so the board is definitely not staying in for much longer - even if I have to take a £70 hit!

The retailer I bought from have offered a no fuss refund as long as I return it because of the chipset issue rather than the problems I've been having. Nice of them :) Not arranged a courier yet, but with Some luCk i might hAve a New board by Easter weekend!

Good luck with yours :)

Be sure to tell the retailer the problem you experience is intermittent. It would be more difficult for them to refuse the return on the basis of short term testing. (In theory). But it maybe the retailer is on your side anyway.

Hi All,
I'm seeing some random freezes when using the computer - mouse doesn't move, can't type anything - basically the entire system is unusable and the only way to get it back is to do a hard reset.

I've been having the exact same problem! Brand new build.

Asus P8H67-I Deluxe Rev3
Intel i7 2600k
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB
EVGA GTX 570

Here's my story: When I first installed Windows, I noticed the freezing happening every 20 minutes to an hour. On a few occasions, I noticed small graphical artifacts on the frozen screen that seemed to suggest a GPU problem. I reseated the GPU and the freezing seemed to go away, but then started happening again the next day.

Turns out the GPU had issues anyway: artifacts in games that leaked rainbow colors behind textures (I'm currently RMA'ing). I thought good, it's probably the graphics card, but the other day my computer froze AGAIN without a GPU at all (using the onboard video with two monitors).

I'm completely at a loss to understand the cause. Could it be my SSD locking everything up? Or a bad motherboard? Unfortunately this is such a new build for me that I don't have any spare parts to help eliminate variables, except for an extra hard drive (although somehow I doubt the SSD is the culprit). Although I'd hate to think it's the motherboard, and RMA it if that doesn't end up fixing the problem.

Any ideas? Thanks for posting this thread, I couldn't find anywhere else that described exactly this problem.

Hi Puma.

There's been a fair number of reports on the P67 boards, but not that many for the H67 boards (probably because they're not as popular amongs the enthusiast crowd due to no overclocking capability).

Random freezes is exactly what I was seeing, but memory was fine and CPU seemed fine too.

I RMA'd the board and the retailer accepted it was faulty (I added a whole laundry list of issues I'd experienced, like the UEFI BIOS not liking wireless mice - just to be sure it was accepted back). I've since stuck a Gigabyte P67-UD3-B3 in there and haven't had a single freeze - so I'm 100% positive it was the ASUS board that was the problem.

If I was you, I'd RMA it and get something else. Only problem, not many cheap non ASUS H67 boards, but since you've got a K processor, why not go for one of the lower end Gigabyte or MSI P67 boards as you can then make use of that unlocked multiplier :D

Phil.

I was experiencing freeze/lock up problems with an Asus P67 Pro. I replaced it with an MSI P67. No problems with the MSI motherboard..
