Sorry, bit rushed for time as doing this on my lunch. I appreciate I have not given it much time & need to do some more research but things seem bit worrying.

System:

Asus p8p67 pro
2500k
Corsair Vengence pc3 12000 1600mhz
Asus gtx580
Corsair HX1000

Just made sidegrade from my i7 920 to this cause fancied a change & waiting for ivy bridge. Ironically i have never had an issue overclocking any cpu til I came across this suppose easy overcloking chip/board.

Parts put together, boot up, instal windows 7 64bit, instal mobo chipset & other software, driver software etc. Everything seems to be working til i try to overclock...

Left everything on auto for now as simply was trying a small overclock, so i change my cpu ratio from 34 to 35 for all cores (although i could not seem to manually set them, so maybe the issue?). Reboot, it just hangs on windows loading screen. Only way to seem to stop this is to run Defaults.

This was done last night & by time everything put together & software installed it was middle of night (2am school night). I went bed pretty frustrated. So this morning i thought i'd have a go just using Auto tune. It switches itself off & eventually back on to be greeting with same result, a hanging windows load screen. Again only fixed when ran default which allows it to windows. On screen was a message that it was at 3,700mhz 12% successful, but this seems to be just an error as i had loaded defaults & was running 3.4Ghz on prime.

So why cant this thing overclock at all? Again, i realise that i need to research bit more but surely Auto tune SHOULD work automatically but doesnt. My temps are fine, only using stock HSF as havent attached my WC yet, voltage seems fine.

Will be trying bit more tonight & thinking of reinstalling windows 7 & motherboard software because it just seems dodegy.

Would love to try bit more now but stuck going back to work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cables are all fine. Prime95 fine at stock speed. Temps low 30s idle, prime 60-65. No issues. Not had chance for updating bios but this shouldn't prevent at least little overclock.

All responses from iPhone at work so sorry if bit short. Think when I get home I will reinstall overthing anyway to see if this fixes it. Having issues with some webpages stopping half way thru loading to. Things just seem bit off. But still any help in meantime is appreciated. Any really good d overclocking guides with bios pics?

Yeah, parts seem fine, everything connecting fine, temps fine. Not touched bus speed as I know meant to just use multiplier. What is the least I have to do to get it to run at 3.5ghz? Leave everything default and change what ratios? I'm thinking start off withe barest changes to see if it can at least do that. Thanks

Edit: my bios settings are simply left at auto, only starting off with minimal changes really for testing purposes. Concern is because I can't literally even clock 100mhz rightnow.

Slighty OT - but it seems strange that Asus would put out guides that require you to put 1.4+v through the CPU - yet putting anything over 1.3v it seems could kill these chips long term??

What kind of volts required (roughly) can you expect to get to 4.5ghz as I would imagine that is the sweet spot???

all i had to do to oc mine was set blk to 100 change the cores to whatever, i have mine at 4.2ghz and Disable PLL Overvoltage so it wakes up from sleep left everything else on auto and not had any problems.

Well copied the official info from asus. Doesn't work. Reinstalling windows & motherboard software. ****ed off!!!! Just will not load past windows if I touch any overclock setting!!!

Edit: if I reinstall software & still doesn't work is there a chance the CPU has a borked multi? I.e. It's a k chip but multi not unlocked properly?

Could be the motherboard too. Did you buy from OcUK? If so make a thread in their Customer Service section and they may be able to give you some advice (if you don't get anywhere from this thread)

Well reinstalled windows & motherboard software and overclocking thru turbo v evo & it clocked it straight to 37 multi, so at last, an overclock. Temps suck on stock cooler 69-75 at 3.7ghz volts 1.232-1.24v. Funny enough core0 coolest, which was my i7 highest, and most peoples I believe. Will test & increase as well as manually lower voltage What's decent clock/speeds at the lower spectrum for now?
