I have been looking at this board but am a little unsure. There are lots of good reviews about similar boards like the pro gen 3 but I can't seem to find out much about this. Is it an older model or something?

Have you read the 3 reviews on that page from 3 buyers of the board ?

Good point. The reviews seem great so on that basis I think this is the board for me

Its a good budget board. The one I received said its already gen3 ready.
Only major thing that are missing the heatsinks around cpu, some overclocking features ie reduced llc options etc and of course less usb ports

I have x2 of them and they work ok. I only use i3 2120 with it so cannot comment on overclocking, but as it has less phases, you might just have to make do with a moderate overclock. I must warn you that the mosfets run hot because they don't have heatsinks. I fitted mine with a thermalright HR-09U. It also does not have a USB 3 header.

this board happily runs my 2500k at 4.5 ghz 24/7 below 60 c simple to overclock (up the multi and a pinch of voltage)did try for 4.7 ghz on auto bless it.
