hi all, a problem you may be able to help with.

wife bought an Asus PC (i5, 8gig, win 8 upgraded to 8.1) last November that is good for what she needed, a few days later and a new graphics card from OC fitted and i could play games on it.

anyway, it has just stopped working with a message on screen of..

Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

when turning on, it shows the BIOS screen and then goes to the above message, at the BIOS screen i can press F8 to bring up the boot device screen with 3 options.

P1: Toshiba DT01ACA100 (953869MB)
P2: ASUS DVD RAM GH95N
Enter Setup.

selecting P1 or P2 just goes to the above reboot message.

Pressing Del or F2 at the BIOS screen takes me to the Asus UEFI BIOS Utility and shows the HD and DVD in that order at bottom left of screen. on exiting, it goes to the reboot message.

if i press F9 to try and enter recovery mode, it does nothing on pressing other than showing the reboot and select proper boot device message.

i'm guessing its a failed hard drive? any ideas/help will be welcome.

tia

p.s.
the system did not come with a separate boot disc.

Thanks for the help guys.

Been in touch with Asus twice now and this is the last suggestion they gave.

"In the situation, please unplug the power, power off ten minutes, then connect it and boot up the PC and test again. If the problem is still, please directly recovery system for a try."

just waiting for another message on what to do next.

I know I can just phone and get it sorted, but thought I'd see how good there tech help is.
