im used to a 2 year old Shuttle with a 3.0G northwood chip and 1gb of ram.

iv recently built a pc for work, using an Asus PE-1, a celeron-d 2.8, and 512MB of ram. its got a 250gb maxtor drive in.
i used the same version of windows, the same version of office, and the same version of norton AV.

It takes absolutely ages to load windows, and is realy really slow to use, things seem to ake a while to start loading, then are very slow.

I can only assume its the celeron cpu, or the system itself. there seems to be a huge bottlenck somewhere

I take it you're already running the latest drivers and bios?

if it takes ages to load maybe there is too much in your startup go to run and type in 'msconfig' and remove any programmes not needed

the system has now been tested using sisoft sandra.
cpu and memory tests were fairly good comparing it to a 2.8 northwood system. the filesystem benchmark was absolutely rubbish and im guessing is the cuase of this problem.
It gets 2MB/s, when it should get over 35MB/s? Its a maxtor 250GB IDE drive.
so drive/cable/controller is faulty.

it was the old SIS IDE driver stopping it from running in DMA mode (got locked in PIO)
