Hey,

So I got this monitor around two years ago now. While the colours and etc are wonderful, I cant help but be annoyed/frustrated in nearly every other aspect of it.

I can't use HDR or I get stupid amounts of image retention, I have to manually unplug it every time I'm not using it. For some reason If I leave it plugged in (but switched off) I get stupid amounts of image retention (even though its turned off?) The pixel cleaning randomly gets stuck and doesn't complete. I have to baby sit this monitor so damn much. It is a pain in my back side. On the counter side, my LG 55 inch OLED TV has never given me any issues in any way at all.

Two years on, what is it like to live with an OLED as a gaming monitor? Have some of the qwerks been ironed out? What is the current 1440p go to monitor?

With everything being said? Do you think its worth while upgrading?

I've been using various OLEDs since 2020, had some burn in on my first AW3423DW but nothing on the DWF that replaced it, and the AW3225QF has been phenomenal overall

However the big problem with all these OLED monitors (except for maybe the new tandem Gigabyte) is the low brightness in HDR, it really depends what you value in a monitor though, I love the motion clarity of OLED but since I primarily play single player games I could live with "less" of it if it meant higher brightness with less ABL

I've been using varying OLED monitors since around 2022/2023 and have enjoyed each of them for gaming and working on.

Text clarity on 1440p models can still take a little time to get used to compared to a regular LCD monitor due to the different sub pixel layout - although it's subjective as to which panel tech is easier on the eyes and produces clear text. The newer WOLED monitors all support RGWB layout and I've found at 1440p those are actually quite good now and not far off a 1440p IPS monitor. The QD-OLED monitors have a triangle pixel layout, I struggled with eye strain/headaches on the QD OLED 1440p monitors but have found their 4k 27" ones to be no issue at all.

There's a few good options at 1440p now, all depends on what refresh you want and how much you want to spend!

The brand new tandem WOLED 1440p monitors are just launching, Gigabyte's MO27Q28G is out this month and Asus's same version of that panel but with a glossy coating is out later this year. I saw that LG have got their own version available too (LG 27GX700A) although I've not found it on any UK sites just yet. These are all 280hz 1440p with the new tandem WOLED tech.

If you want QD OLED, Samsung, MSI and Gigabyte all just launched their 500hz 1440p monitors - but it really just means their 360hz and 240hz offerings are even cheaper now. Alienware's AW2725D (280hz 1440p QD-OLED) is 450 right now and with a discount code drops to under 400!

There are some great options right now with OLED monitors, I think a lot of the 'burn in' issues are resolved to some degree as nearly everyone offers 3 year burn in warranty and the amount of 'burn in safety' features you get with each monitor do a great job. I'm definitely eyeing up one of the new tandem WOLED monitors, whenever they become available in the UK.

Great, ill keep an eye out for them. The biggest issue is having to physically unplug the monitor every damn time I am not using it :/
