Still trying to get a decent source on exactly what occurs with the 2nd nvme slot on the prime X470.

I've got an evo 970 in the first slot, 1 graphics card and a soundblaster-Z. I think, from memory, testing 2 nvme's was ok but... I don't want to blunder into performance issues.

Would I be right in thinking that adding the second nvme will likely be adding 1 item too much?

I've tried to decipher the motherboard manual around it, pretty sure I can't QUITE do what I want here but... just checking I'm missing out before skipping over the 2nd nvme (looking at one of the 2TB 660p's).

You'll have one x1 slot left for the sound blaster after installing the second drive.

The second drive won't be running at full speed. But still good for a slower secondary drive.

Sorry to bring this thread back, however I have a very similar setup with asus prime pro, 3700X, vega 56, soundblaster z and one M2 drive in first slot. I want more storage and would rather get a fast m2 drive now that I can use in the future on a x670 board. How was the performance of the system when you added the second drive ? I don't really care about the speed at the mo but just want to make sure everything carried on running as well ? I will be upgrading to big Navi this year and then the board next year for pcie 4.0

Eh, a week late, hadn't been on in a while, hopefully still relevant:

The 2nd drive was limited to around 1800MB/sec, couldn't push higher. I still called it a huge win :D

Hah nice one, In the end I ordered a 1tb wd sata ssd. My feeling was I would wait to see the new console requirements and then upgrade board and drives. Thanks for getting back to me though and very decent speeds

You swapped up for the 1TB or added and working ok? :D

I ended up jumping to X570 3800X and... went a bit mental with all the NVMe options. 3 drives giving 3.5TB between them now. It's 100% the future, no cable attached drives :D (in the interim, cheap "me too" innodisk 2TB 2.5" as well, one day tho... :p ).
