Asus Pundit P1-AH1

isn't the AH1 the socket 939 kit? if so I keep hearing about these being rediculously slow. Someone with a A64 3500 with one of these getting a Pi1M of over 50seconds, compared to low 40's.

Then in that case - no I haven't used the S939 one, but the P4 LGA775 version is a lovely thing and doesn't overheat even with a fast processor in there. It's quiet too. Th eonly thing I didn't like about mine was the little porcupines of wire that stuck up from the USB, audio and Firewire headers.

Ah ok, thanks for your help :)

Ive got one of these running as an HTPC and its great so far. Its quite quiet and certainly not slow. The only problem so far is that Asus seem to have decided to mount the optical out on the front of the case which looks a bit untidy when its in use.

It sounds like a hoover when it starts up but then throttles back, on my 3000+ winchester its quite quiet at about 5 foot which is where I sit but if your after silence youd need to invest in some different fans. There isnt a lot of room in the case though so any replacement cooler would have to be quite small, I would think the best bet would be to swap the 70mm cpu fan for an 80mm nexus or something.

Thx for the info. So an 80mm fan would fit no probs, or would it be a squeeze?

I've just ordered the pundit to go with a 3800+, hopefully the cpu wont be too hot in there.

An 80 would fit, you may neet to rig up a bit of cardboard on the sides of the fan to duct it towards the side vent but nothing big. you could probable squeeze (would be a real squeeze) a 92mm in there if you were happy to cut the side vent a little larger and put a grill on it. Theres plenty of little tweaks you can make to make it cooler/quieter. Ive noticed the P4 version comes with a copper HSF but the AMD one comes with an ally one. My thinking on this is that whilst you want to draw heat from the processor, the speed at which this can be done isnt the limiting factor in the case, its the speed at wich the hot air can be removed from the case that makes a difference so I would stick with the stock heatsink.

So what do you think of it?

Sorry for not updating.

Been busy with work and also the world cup ;)

All the components arrived, i've yet to put them together, the HSF seems rather cramped I must say, and I don't think i'm going to bother changing the fan.

I've sold the 3800+ and am replacing it with a 3200+ because I'm not entirely convinced that the HSF will keep the 3800+ cool enough for my liking.

Will post pics soon.
