Asus Rampage III Extreme (With 980x) memory query

Hello


I have a fully updated/revised/bios updated Asus Rampage III Extreme.

I only have 6GB (3 x2) of Corsair Dominator 1066 1200 DDR3 in triple channel mode.

I have managed to source some more memory but its 1600 and a different brand.( I need 12Gb and to try and get some additional speed from memory)

Can I put them in the other slots? my 980x is overlocked to 4.2Ghz with memory floating at 1408mhz.

Instructions says to put first triple pair in A1,B1,C1. Does that mean I can put different memory in the other slots (A2,B2,C2).

You can put them in the other slots but im sure the faster memory will down clock to a slower speed.

Many thanks, it's just so hard to find better/alike ram for these triple channel 'old' boards.
