Asus Ranger + i7 4070k bundle

So,

After effectively destroying my old setup in a whirlwind of bad luck (and probably some stupidity), I am in the market for a new Motherboard and CPU bundle. This will be replacing my old setup which was about 3 years old with:

- Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P
- Intel i7 - 2600k

I am pretty sold on the following bundle that OCUK is currently offering:

- Asus Maximus VII Ranger
- Intel i7 4790k (Devils Canyon)

This will go along with the other hardware/components that I currently have, which are as follows:

- Fractal R5 case
- Corsair H100i 240mm AIO cooling
- 16GB Corsair 1600mhz DDR3 (low profile)
- ATI R9 290 + Accelero Xtreme IV cooling
- 800W PSU

And a bunch of hard drives/CD drives that don't really have an impact on this. I will mostly use this for gaming and photo editing.

I do overclock though (my old i7-2600k was running at 4.7ghz for the last 2 years without a problem), so I do want to make sure that whatever I buy will give me access to all that fun stuff.

Are there any better bundles out there for the same sort of price, or does this seem like the best setup to replace my old system already?

Hmm, that is a good deal actually. It depends whether it's valid abroad though. My work moved to Madrid, so I tend to order things, come back to the UK and then bring everything back to Madrid with me.

The Warranty and Exchange look great, but it might be more trouble that it's worth if I'm not actually in the country anymore. Delivery to Spain no longer seems to be an option, as I used to order a lot when I first had to move here :(
 
I think the offer is available in other countries.

I have seen it in the Nordics and Benelux
 
Ahh yah, I think the same offer does exist here too.

It's basically a toss-up between Gigabyte or Asus. My Gigabyte was faultless for 3 years with fairly significant overclocking. But I work with Asus more at work, and they are also very robust and configurable.

The price for either bundle is almost the same, give or take £10 here or there. I know for a fact that the Asus board supports my specific memory modules (Corsair Vengeance), but the Gigabyte site is so slow that I still haven't been able to confirm!!

That might be the deciding factor, as there's not much in it otherwise!!

Yah .. I have never been that concerned with the confirmed vendor lists for RAM before as whatever I've used, it's always just worked. However, a guy next to me at work has recently had 2 separate batches of RAM fail on his new system, before checking the vendor lists and realising that they are not "officially" confirmed. He got a new set of RAM that was on the list, and problem solved. Given my luck with these things over the last week, I don't want to give fate any excuse to screw me over any more! :D

However, I have confirmed that my existing Vengeance RAM is supported by both the Asus and Gigabyte boards. I am leaning towards the Asus though, they do have the better reputation for overclocking and stability although, as I said, my Gigabyte was solid as a rock for 3 years!!

Ive had a few Gigabyte boards and have been happy with them, the Z97 boards are solid, but in sure you have the newest BIOS as the early ones that supported devils canyon CPU used too much Vcore at stock.
