Hi All,

I have started having issues with my RIVE,
For a couple of years its been running stable [email protected], 16Gig Team Extreme@2133 and 2x Titans all under water and powered by a Corsair AX1200.

Over the last weekend it has shutdown for no reason and has been stuck in a loop of restarting, no LED boot code.
Powering down and trying again is the same, clearing the cmos is the same also.
Eventually after lots of tries it will boot up and run ok.
Sometimes removing the 24 pin power from the motherboard helps it boot.

Things I've tried so far running with 1 slot of memory, removing all but keyboard and monitor.
I've flashed the 4804 bios before I went away at the start of the week and its been running since then even though it is at stock just now. I only flashed Bios 1.

Anyone else had this weird situation before as I read in another forum it's a failed or failing motherboard.

Have you got a spare psu to try? Sounds like it may be the culprit... Don't take my word for it though. I'm sure someone with more expertise will be along shortly

Looks like you were right, the Corsair AX1200 has a burnt wire and a melted pin at the 24 pin motherboard plug 2nd row down from the top first pin at the cpu side.

It's a modular psu so is it a case of getting a new 24 plug from corsair?
or do you think the psu is on its way out?

What would cause this ? is it a PSU fault or a motherboard issue?
Cause I can feel an RMA coming on here.

I'm not an expert but it sounds like either too much power being drawn or a short somewhere on the board

As to replacing the cable. Personally I would either get the unit properly tested or replace whether that RMA or purchasing.

Seems to be an issue with a lot of motherboard/psu combos when using multi gpu set ups.
EVGA have actually came up with a card you plug into a spare PCIE lane to power it and remove the overcurrent on the 2 pins on the 24 pin plug.
The pins that are melted power the pcie bus and because I have 2xTitans this is likely the cause.
I have fully tested the PSU and it is fine no issues, the motherboard is not burned thankfully.
Just glad I know the issue now, it was driving me insane.

The RIVE has a connector to boost the PCIe power capacity anyway.

It may be that the problem wasn't overdraw as such, but a bad connection on that pin with the motherboard. Bad connection -> higher resistance to current flow -> more heat -> burnt connector.

That's what I have been thinking, as I have the 6 pin PCIE power connected to the mobo.
Might have been a bad crimp on the psu 24 plug creating heat like you said.
I have emailed Corsair support with a question about it and noticed a few others on their forums with similar issues and were all offered new 24 pin PSU leads.
Which sounds rather suspect. But will wait and see what they got to say about it.
Thanks for the reply

Kevin
