Hey Overclockers!

Having a new issue with my monitor, ive got the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q IPS monitor which ive been using for around 8 Years since 2017, never had an issue with the monitor, only recently i notice when i would move around the room the monitor would go off and on, just this week, it got worse and would reset my whole pc so assume maybe static, so i tried to unplug the power from the back of the monitor and when i plugged back in it wouldnt turn on anymore, the power bricks doesnt get hot either, i just ordered a new power brick on ebay as someone luckily in Sheffield was selling one, im worried if unplugged from the back of my monitor has done damage to the monitor itself. One thing i will say the power brick has been very sensitive to movement so maybe its a faulty power brick? i hope it's not my monitor. Also there hasn't been any visual glitches on my screen.

Also when i plug the power brick to the wall or surge protector extension lead, i notice the power brick still stays cold even if you don't plug the power adapter into the monitor.

I don't know if the 279 had the same issue but the 278 had a high current leak to ground which eventually fries a component on one of the boards - could happen anywhere from 1-10 years or usage (though normally you see some image issues like fuzzy text before it dies). As above the original power adapters were a bit rubbish with poor power regulation and prone to dying as well. Though that it would go off with movement tends to lean towards a loose connection.

Oh wow i didn't know that, i havn't noticed any image issues on my monitor or any fuzziness so maybe thats good sign, only reason why i unplugged the cable from back of my monitor was my PC would get resetting itself when i would move around, the power brick was close to the floor so maybe the vibration knocked the cable somewhere, i even tried to release the static by pressing on the power button to see it would help. the 279 and 278 does use the same power brick i saw too.
