I'm looking to upgrade my 23" 1080p IPS monitor I'm currently using. It's a 60Hz non-gsync panel and I'm noticing quite a lot of screen tearing in games, plus I want a more immersive gaming experience. I originally was planning on getting something like the Acer Predator XB271HU or Asus PG279Q, but one of my friends who owns an Asus PG348Q has decided to sell it and has offered it to me before putting it on the bay. He's offered it to me for £800, which is still a heck of a lot of money for a monitor, but not a lot more than the ones I was looking at.

Would you guys say it's worth going for at that price? I'm really torn. With CES right around the corner I don't want to spend that much on it only to find that something better is announced, but equally if nothing of note is announced then I've missed the chance to buy an as-new PG348Q for nearly £200 off.

I think the Acer Predator XB271HU or Asus PG279Q would be a hell of an upgrade for you as it is. The UW screen may overwhelm you slightly as it's VERY wide in comparison what you have now (I currently use an X34A, came from a 32" 16:9 screen).

Maybe try them if you can, see if it's a good fit for your needs? It's a fairly big investment.

Yeah I am a bit concerned by quite how much bigger the PG348Q will be. I've tried it at my friend's house, but he's using it in a large room, whereas it would be going in a pretty small room at mine. Also, my desk isn't particularly large so it would necessitate me buying a wider desk. I know the sensible thing to do is buy one of the 27" panels, but the UW was just so beautiful to use for gaming, which is my main PC use.

Either way I'd need to upgrade my GPU, I've got a 970 and that wouldn't be beefy enough for any of the monitors. I was planning on holding off on any decisions until after CES, but him offering me the monitor has really left me in two minds.

UW is definitely the way to go but he's asking far too much for a 2nd hand screen.

Given new ones are readily available for sub £1k, I consider a fair price to be sub £700 preferably closer to £650.

I love mine, wouldnt swap it for miss world.

Remember he will have to pay stupid ebay charges, so at least get that down to around £700.
