I have been having problems with the virgin news servers (news.virginmedia.com) in that i cannot access them using Newsbin or any other program, it gives me the error message that it needs a username and login details to access the server but Virgin doesnt need a login or username to access the server.

Upon fault finding i found that if i disconnect my ASUS RT N56U wireless router and connected my PC straight up to the Virgin Superhub router then i could get access and everything downloadeds fine. So it would appears my ASUS RT N56U router is blocking the virgin news server, any ideas how its doing this and what i need to alter so i can connect to the news servers through the ASUS router?

Are you using custom DNS servers with the N56U router as opposed to Virgin's DNS servers when directly into the modem?

I did have the DNS section empty with the ASUS router for DNS1 and DNS2 but then have tried adding

194.168.4.100
194.168.8.100

but that doesnt appear to fix the problem

EDIT: Should point out it only appears to the news.virginmedia.com it seems to be blocking as i also use astraweb and that downloads fine

Strange. Are you running the latest firmware? If not I'd update it.

Alternatively maybe try resetting the router back to factory settings?
