Hi All I am after some info , i have the Asus RT-N56U Router but i,m a bit puzzled as to what the WPS Button is for ? i,ve looked in the manual but its only mentioned as a button ,but nothing about what its function is ? Sorry if it sounds dim :) :o

WPS is designed to simplify WiFi setup, it's designed so that rather than having to enter a potentially very long WPA/WPA2 key, you just use the WPS pin and the devices will auto-configure themselves. The button is basically the same thing, except rather than using a pin, you just press the WPS button on the router/access point, and press it on the device you want to connect to the network at the same time and the two devices will communicate and WPS will exchange the WPA/WPA2 key.

oh many thanks :) wow ! i can,t believe how techno things have gone ha! i guess in time we won,t need to do anything :) but i do like that idea because sometimes passwords and codes can be a pain :)

Well on some routers WPS can be a bad thing, because the ones that use just a PIN instead of a button can be brute forced by someone trying to get on the network, an it's much easier to brute force a short WPS pin than a long WPA2 key. What's worse is that some routers do not have the option to disable this feature, making it a security hole that can't be closed.

interesting stuff :) not thought of that i guess its like p2p and security in general on the net its not as safe as it can be :mad:
