HI all.

This might be a bit of a long post so bare with!

I have a 420/35 line and for some reason last night i had an issue where the speed randomly dropped, like dramatically dropped to 35mb. A quick reboot of the router fixed this?

Within the admin panel of the router (Before the reboot), the port statuses for all of the connected Ethernet ports were 1Gbps. (I did have an issue with LAN 1 dropping from 1Gbps to 100mb, but i have since rewired this port and that's no longer an issue. Rewired that end from a wall box to a surface mount box)

LAN1 goes from the router to a mounted wall box, which then is cabled around the house to the back bedroom and connected to a surface mount box, rather than a wall box. Then a cable from there to an 8 port switch. The cable to the switch is new, as is the cable from the switch to the PC.

Today I've done the following
  • Changed the cable from the router to the modem box
  • Changed the cable from the router to the Ethernet box downstairs.
  • Powered down the modem and left it for 5 minutes
  • Powered down the router and left it for 5 minutes.
  • Updated the Merlin firmware to 384.16 to 384.17
I've ran the Merlin firmware since i got the router back in April 2018 and it hasn't been factory reset since then, so, that's my next job most probably at the weekend.

Are there any clear/obvious answers as to why this happened. My immediate thought was cable, but, if it's all showing as 1gbps connected and a simple reboot of the router fixes this, surely it's more likely down to a anomaly on the router?

Apologies for the long post. If it needs explaining more, please feel free to ask!
