Hi all,

Really hoping for some miracle help on here….I recently got a Asus RT-AX86U to replace my old RT-N66U, the new router seems to have amazing rang, I can’t get Wi-Fi half way down the road in all directions but I do have one extremely frustrating issue I cant seem to resolve and starting to run out of ideas so really hoping for some help!!

The issue is that I have a Chromecast connected to my amp in the corner of the living room which is the same room as the router is in and I use this solely to stream music from Google music\YouTube music, so I sit down in the evening and cast to it and have the music on in the background, I have been doing this for years with no issue but with the new router the music just keeps cutting out every once in a while for 1 or 2 seconds, it can do this cutting out everyone 10\20 seconds or slightly larger gaps.

The things I have tried so far are below –
  • I tried 3 different Chromecasts, 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen, all do the same
  • I tried splitting the network up so I have 2.4ghz and 5ghz SSID’s, putting the Chromecasts on ether seems to have same issue.
  • I tried removing all other Wi-Fi devices from room in case of interference and does not seem to help
  • I have checked and its does not seem to be a particular Wi-Fi channel that causes issue.
  • Changing loads of settings on router, I checked my old routers advanced Wi-Fi settings and matched them on new router with no luck.
Points of note –
  • Android TV with new router the TV would not auto connect to network at first until I connected it via WPS with 5ghz and now stays connected
  • Bandwidth on everything seems fine, the android TV and google mini work fine that are right next to Chromecast location, I could be gaming and playing a 4k film without issue but the Chromecast will keep cutting out.
  • Rebooting the router or changing settings and the router doing a soft reset while saving seem to fix it for a while, after changing settings or a reboot the issue wont come back for many hours.
  • The router is on the latest firmware.
As per above point its hard to troubleshoot as if you change any settings on router or reboot it works for quite some time fine so its not quick to test things…..its driving me a bit nuts as clearly it is something about the new router and I’m sure it can be fixed but can’t work out how….

Any idea’s help would be great!!??!! Thanks all

Just to say, I gave up...last thing I tried was moving the router and lowing its power output just in case it was overwhelming the small antenna in Chromecast but no luck...I also noticed Iplayer app on TV was cutting out more often so it now in post back.....
