Nice one,runs well now.
The router does seem to run quite hot though,is that normal or just me faffing?

Hi again Uhtred,

I'm looking under Administration-Services and I see there's a HTTP web server available.

Is there any way to disable that or turn it off completely,I can't see it immediately if there is?

When it says HTTP web server it means the admin console, so you don't want to disable that ;)

To make sure it's only accessible on your internal network go to Firewall and make sure everything under Access to Router Services from WAN is disabled.

Cheers,

have all the firewall access from WAN disabled and also set the web server to https and Restricting Web Access from LAN: Wired and Main AP Clients too.

Thanks for your help.

:)

Last call for this one.

If using the FTP across a a windows and linux network do you have to open an Asus account?

I stuck a 32GB flash drive in to one of the routers usb ports and windows can see it without activation of the Ai app but Fedora either can't see it or I'm not doing something I should be,can anyone help please?

FTP or Samba share?

I found one of these routers at work. I need to buy a new power adapter for it, luckily I can get one for about £8, worth the punt.

How do you find it performs for you?

I'll likely use it as a WiFi AP, connected to my Virgin Media router.

Is there a difference between the RT-N56U and the RT-N56UB1?

I see there's a newer than I'm using full version of Padavan available for the B1 version but no full versions there for the non B1 variety?

Big difference between the two. The B1 has more memory, different processor and antenna configuration afaik. Not sure why Asus chose to retain the N56U model number when they're so different.

I've got the original 2012 N56U and have only recently started having an issue with it. Aside from that it has been rock solid stable for years on the Padawan 3.0xx firmware with very little configuration to do. I recently noticed that the 5ghz radio kept dropping more and more frequently, whilst the 2.4ghz was fine. Seems it is a common issue and the latest Padawan 3.4xx firmware apparently fixes it. I've just flashed to it so here goes.

I just went to the 3.4 3.9_099 base version,I found the router was getting hot and hope that'll help a bit.
