Im really hoping someone here may hold the answer to this, or at least be able to give me some idea what to try next.
I have an older Asus Strix 7.1 headset which runs through an Audio hub its supplied with. Its worked fine and in fact has been a fantastic headset for several years now, but about 3 months ago the problems started. One day it just randomly decided it didnt want to turn on anymore. When the pc is started, or its disconnected and reconnected, the orange light on the headset briefly glows and then goes out again, and thats it. Windows doesnt even detect its existance in device manager as an unknown device.. its just not there. Now this is where things get funky.. Over the course of several weeks and a lot of trial and error which I will go into detail in a minute, I found a work around. There is one PC in the house which when connected to, it turns on and functions perfectly. If you leave it plugged into this PC for about 15 minutes and then transfer it to any other pc which it wasnt working on before, it now miraculously works, and will continue to do so until the next morning when I boot the PC up to find it dead as a door nail again.
Now, onto the things I have tried to remedy this insane situation..
I have reinstalled the drivers in both normal and compatibility mode.
Reinstalled my motherboards USB and chipset drivers, several times.
Updated my BIOS.
I have tried the headset in every single USB port of my pc, including via 2 hubs AND the hub out of the pc it worked in, plugged directly into a usb header on my PC.
I have rigged up a USB cable with bare wires at the end a measured the voltage coming out of my socket compared to the socket on the PC it works in, just in case its power related, but the pc it works in is actually 0.1v less output than mine is..
I have totally uninstalled and reinstalled the device through device manager several times.
I have also done the suggested firmware update on the headset a total of 5 times across both the PC it does work on, and the PC it doesnt work on after doing the fix mentioned above.
I also checked to see if there were any windows updates around the time things went sideways and unfortunately there was not.
I also checked the driver details on both machines when they are working and the drivers are identical.
At this point I am at a total loss, I dont know what else I can do but I also cant really afford a new headset and Asus were about as useful as a chocolate teapot when I emailed them. If anyone has a suggestion I would greatly appreciate it as at this point I am prepared to try almost anything.
