Asus Strix 970 Advice

In the past few weeks I have been the owner of two evga sc 970's which have both suffered from the cry of the banshee (bad coilwhine),
and despite the current furore about the 970 series I still found the card to be a fantastic performer.

So after having felt more burned by Evga with the level of coilwhine their
cards produced consistently produced A video link (not a great example of how bad it was).

So now I'm currently looking at an Asus strix as a replacement but due to Evga i'm very
concerned about the chances of coilwhine. Does any one have experiece with the coilwhine from a strix.

Any and all advice is very much apperciated.

Also currently using a Prodigy M with a 750w superflower PSU meaning the space for cards in my case is surprisingly restrictive.
Doesn't help I'm rubbish at cable managment.

I have a Strix 970 and I have never heard coil whine while gaming, including with a solid overclock. The only time I heard coil whine is after I completed unigine valley where the credit screen goes up to like 200 fps. That's perfectly normal though.

Thanks for all the notes.

It has been a terrible shame the wide ranging level of coil whine found across this generation, a further mark on the series (which doesn't really need any more at this point).

This galax/ocuk card has coil whine reduction tech (some glue ) to help prevent coil whine and has a no quibble return policy if whine is still present.
While that is something that has caught my eye, in the past I've been caught out due to short warranties, so always try and get a decent warranty length (props to evga for providing 5 years with registration). Sadly this only comes with 2 years, which may sound silly as i'll probably change the card again in about 2 years but I do prefer the safety net.
P.s do love that whine reduction tech is simply glue.

Go for OCUK reference card then? No coil whine and blows air out the back of the case. The card I wish I had got
Is this true that reference cards are less likely to whine, from what I heard it may be due to the reference design that cards are more likely to whine.

Damn, at this point I've decided to throw caution to the wind and not get either the reference or the Strix but the Kfa2 infinity, as it has the best of both worlds. The beefy cooler and the whine guarantee while also being marginally cooler, guess I'll just have to cross my fingers that it doesn't go kaput on the 731st day I own it.
Thank's everyone for all your advice it has very much helped me in this matter.

No worries, hope you enjoy the card!

Whelp that Card also came with whine (no cheese though), swear I must be some sort of magnet for this issue.

Will give the 970's one more chance and if that goes south will wait till next pay day (or most likely before) and order some 980 model.

Okay well I think I may just be going insane at this point.
Have just received my second KFA2 970 infinity, sadly this one also suffers from the mildest of cases of coil whine(can still get a little unpleasant in certain situations).

Is it completely unreasonable in thinking that if you spend near £300 pounds on a product things such as coil whine should be designed against happening at all, I know that rule of thumb is that it can't be helped but honestly there must be something that can be done design wise to eliminate coil whine.

Am I possibly just being too picky at this point.

Don't know whether this'll be of any use since it's mosty luck of the draw but my Strix is practically whine free. There's slight electronic buzzing when the card's under load but it's not high-pitched and only really hearable when you put your ear very close to the case (can't imagine anyone who's got his head screwed on the right way round fretting over that).

Hate to say this, but the 970/980 in reality should really be 960/960Ti or 960Ti/970. But due to lack of new cards from AMD, Nvidia decided to have their new product compete against last gen cards, and calling them the 970/980 and selling them as such...

The 970 is 60/60Ti quality with 70 price tag.
