Asus strix vega 64 no signal when idle

Hello all,

So on cyber Monday I decided to buy an Asus strix vega 64 card from OC UK to replace my gtx 970. Generally speaking I'm happy with the performance but I am having one issue I can't get to the bottom of so I hope someone here can help me sort it as I really hope it isn't a faulty card and I have to send it back.

The problem is intermittently if I step away from my pc, when I come back and turn my monitor back on and press a key or move the mouse to turn on the display it does not turn on and I get a no signal message on the monitor. The only way to get the monitor back on is to hit the reset button on the pc and restart it. This does not happen when I am using the pc or when the card is under load during a game etc, it only seems to be when it is idle so I'm confident the 750w psu is good..also I didn't have this problem with the 970 and the same monitor also using the display port.

The mb I have is a Asus crosshair V running latest Windows 10

Things I have tried so far

Used ddu and rolled back driver to previous version 18.9.3

New display port cable

Removed and reseated card

Changed pcie cables from psu

Unplugged other monitor and vr headset

Disabled fast start and sleep

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Might help to know the full PC spec :)

Question. If you prevent your monitor from turning off, are things OK then?

Have you checked in the Windows Event viewer for any odd messages etc.

Might be worthwhile running the Windows system file checker (nothing lost doing this). From an elevated command prompt , run "sfc /scannow'.

Good luck.

I got this with my LC 64 (and probably still do, although not sure, as im on a new screen now), if i turned my monitor off, as i was going away for a while (an hr or so), when id come back, it wouldn't come back on (the screen, it would just go into standby, my PC would still be on fine), so i had to hard restart, its happened since i got the card (last year), and im sure it happened on my previous card too (which was also an AMD), so i just started leaving it on when i went away, doesn't bother me.

Im on Win 7 too, so can't see it being a 10 prob, so its probably a driver prob, as im pretty sure, when i was on my previous card, it was fine, until id updated the drivers, and if your previous card was a Nvidia, on the same screen, same DP cable, then it sounds like it.

EDIT: i don't update my drivers often now, sometimes i can go over a year (as if the ones im on are working fine, i see no need), but ive just remembered, i updated them not so long back, so im on the 18.10.1s now (previous set were the very first Adrenalin set, which were about a year or so ago :p), so ill give it a go, i'll turn my monitor off, and see if it comes back on.

EDIT: We'll ive just tried it twice there, i left it off for a minute each time, and it came back on fine ( a minute should be long enough, as i remember when id forget sometimes, and turn it off, it wouldn't come straight back on when i tried to) so bugger knows if its the drivers, as as well as updating them, im on a new screen now too, BenQ EX3501R (previous was a BenQ XL2730Z), and i never tried switching this one off, when i was still on my previous drivers.

EDIT Again: Ive also just remembered, when i updated to these drivers, the screen never flashed, when it got to installing the Display Driver (which it used to say it would/or could do), it never flinched throughout the install.

I also can't see it being a DP cable problem, as im using the same one i used on my previous screen, so likely is the driver, as it seems to be fixed for me now, or its a combination of monitor, and the drivers.

Thanks guys. I have changed the power settings to never turn off the display in windows to see if that will help. I will continue to turn off my monitor as I usually do when I leave my desk.

If it happens again I'll check the event log. Although I did have a quick look before and I couldn't really find anything.

Display port can be a bit derpy about picking up signals sometimes, i used to find similar issues if my screen went to "sleep" and i had to remove and replace the dp connector to get it to come back on. It's like the connector shuts itself off and has to be restarted.

Try disabling Fast Start Up on the Windows Power Settings page. I have seen a few reports that people having a similar problem to you have sorted it by doing this.
