Hi,

Recently got an Asus STX and will soon have a pair of AKG 702's on way which will be used soley for gaming.

Question is what are the recommended settings with this setup for gaming?
Im a bit lost as to what the various settings (such as Dolby Headphones) do, let alone the presets.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

If playing music, select the HF (Hi Fi) button, which bypasses everything and gives you the cleanest sound possible.

Gaming: If the game has a headphone setting then select HF, as above. If there is no headphone setting, set the game to multi channel (5.1 or 7.1) and set the sound card to either 6 or 8 channels to match and hit the GAME button.

Movies are going to vary depending on how they are encoded, just set the STX channels to match 6 or 8) and then hit the MOVIE button.

The GAME and MOVIE buttons switch in the DSP that provides the virtual surround. You can use the MUSIC button, which moves the sound to the front more like speakers but I find it makes the sound muddy compared with bypass mode (HF).

Can't you just install the driver instead of the Xonar suite - raw sound is always better than the stupid presents that software provide.

if you want raw sound then you just select the HF button which completely bypasses any sound processing.
