Asus T100 owners thread

Not seen any news on the 64GB one coming to the UK. I'm still pleased with my 64GB US model, but half tempted to sell it.

I've satisfied most of my curiosity about Baytrail and I've kind of confirmed my own belief that I don't really want a tablet so I just spend most of my time using it as a laptop anyway. Really it's just an expensive toy when I have a Sony Vaio Z-series laptop as well.

Shame I cant find the 64gb one anywhere, really liking the look of these tbh

+1

Think i'm sold if i could find a 64GB model in the UK.:(

14GB free on the 32GB model is a little light, although i have a 64GB micro SD card already...

Hmmm.

Yeah me too, I actually had one reserved to collect yesterday locally went to get it and they told me they had no stock...... nice of them to phone me and let me know (I had placed the order 5 hours before collecting too) I saw them advertised on a german site, also with the 500gb hdd in the base for around £400 which isnt bad but its obviously non uk keyboard and im not sure I would be too happy with that, hopefully it will come soon.

They had one on display (probably the one id reserved) had a quick play around with it and it seemed good but it only had 8gb ish left which is rubbish and from what I could tell there wasn't much installed other than office, quite like the look of the dell venue 11 pro now

Only 8GB after office? Not good.:(

not 100% sure as there might have been other stuff installed aswell but I couldn't see a huge amount in the metro start screen but yeah it was definitely 8gb ish which itself wouldn't be a major issue but I don't think you can install stuff via appstore etc anywhere else?

Around 14GB out of box on the 32GB, installing Office 2013 then takes over 5GB.

My 64GB one had 34GB free OOB and you could free up another 8GB removing the recovery partition.

I've got the included office software installed on the internal drive and a few other light programs. But bulkier stuff i've just installed on an external 64GB SD card. Got around 10GB of free internal space, and about 50GB external.

Any work i do will be uploaded to dropbox and backed up elsewhere, so i've no really need for much more space. I may drop some movies on it if i take it on holiday, but i doubt i'd fill the remaining 50GB with crap just for the sake of it. So plenty of room for my needs, at the minute.

Ordered a 24" monitor today to hook it up to when I'm working. Also got a cheap Crumpler Gimp Moses case for it off ebay for £3, which although it's a little on the big side, it's very well protected.

I'm guessing you could install office onto a microsd tho to leave internal free for store apps? Did you mention previously the 32gb doesn't have a recovery partition?

Not sure. It refused to install at all on a 32GB system I tested with - already had Portal 2 installed on the eMMC so got a "not enough space KTHXBYE" from the installer, didn't ask if I wanted to use the SD card.

Ok, I cant see why not as you would surely just do a custom or advanced install and change the path to d: or whatever the sdcard is.

Wasn't the standard installer as far as I could see - never got as far as having those options, that was the first screen it gave me.

May have been able to choose if the device had the space on c:

Gotcha :) I think i'll wait for 64gb one then, still like the look of the dell tbh but god knows how much extra the keyboard is, checked before it says estimated delivery 16 dec or so, but was chatting online and they said they are actually in stock, still its £90 more without the keyboard but does have a better screen, cpu and more storage, just a bit worried about the cpu being able to through stuff around on the screen as well as the T100....

I mounted the SD card, so that it appears as a folder in the C: drive, then just installed within that folder. The C: drive still shows up as a 32GB drive (rather than 32+64), but then the program files installed into that folder go straight onto the SD card. That's how I installed AutoCAD, and will install most of my other programs, to keep the remaining space available for apps and temp files etc (though i don't expect to be installing many apps on it).

Well I got impatient, when I see something I like and reviews generally seem positive I end up just going for it :o

Arrived today, 14.7gb free, does seem a little on the low side obviously without Office too.

This charging is painfully slow? I think I've had it on charge since I got in from work sooo, nearing 2hrs? I'm at 20% (It arrived dead) I suppose it wouldn't be too bad if I just remembered to do it over night or maybe a better charger will appear...

Screens much nicer than I expected, just trying to find some bloody apps and adjust to this tile malarkey. I can see this replacing my android tablet, just need to get my google services set up how I like, gmail/youtube etc and I'll be good to go.

I think I need to buy an SD card :o

Im quite pleased so far! the keyboard/touchpad feels a bit cheap but just having actual keys instead of bloody touchscreens everywhere makes me forgive it.

Sort of hope I never see them mention the 64gb version or I'll kick myself if the price isn't much diff

That sounds like a good work around, how did you do that?

Seriously tempted to pick one of these up. My lil Acer One finally died yesterday and this looks like a perfect.

I am going to pickup football manager this weekend and see how that fairs on this little device. Hoping it works ok.
Did you ever get around to trying this?

what is the best sdcard to buy for these? Just bought one for my misses and would like to get her some extra storage with it.

You can mount drives to folders in Disk Management in Computer Management. Not a bad workaround.

With that in mind, do you think you could copy the contents of say c:\Program Files, delete the folder (if you can?) and mount a 64gb microsd via computer management as Program Files? That could be quite handy if you could, really want to get one of these but 32gb just isn't enough and I don't fancy a foreign keyboard

I've not tried doing that myself, but sounds like it should work.

As i mentioned above, I just select the folder my SD Card is mounted too when selecting the installation directry folder (got a separate Programs folder on the SD Card) when installing a new program, only got office and a few other light programs installed on the internal drive. But i purposely didn't install anything on it until my SD card arrived. Got roughly 10GB free now for updates and temporary files, etc. Though it's quite surprising how much space temp internet files take up when you've only got limited storage.
