Recently I put this unit together, and have been very pleased in general:
Windows Media Centre 2005; Athlon 64 3200+; 1 GB RAM; Samsung 2504 SATA hard drive; LB DVD rewriter; no additional cards; USB keyboard; USB mouse through adapter to PS-mouse port (to save a USB port).
The unit is quiet, quick, and the integrated DVI output makes for clear imagery on the 19 inch Neovo LCD.
However, there can be a significant delay in boot-up occasionally, particularly after turning the unit off and then restarting within 10 minutes or so. All the fans come on full speed, run this way from 10 sec to about a minute, and then return to their usual low speed and the system boots.
As the fans are temperature sensitive, I wondered if when turning the unit off a certain amount of heat is generated which must be removed before the unit will boot. It does not exhibit this behaviour when restarting, just after being turned off for a short while. Nor does it when starting at the beginning of the day from "cold".
There are also anomalies when using stand-by or hibernate. On rebooting the hard disk seems to attempt to start a number of times but won't. Sometimes it is necessary to turn off the system completely (by holding the power button down for 8-10 second) before it will reboot.
Suggestions appreciated.
Kind regards,
John
