hey all ,

just bench testing my new components and this has come up on screen

JBre4Ip.jpg

no hard drive is connected at this point just keybaoard and monitor googling suggests press Y, but why am i getting this on brand new hardware ? how does one proceed without bricking the motherboard.

MB has manafucture date of dec 23 would have thought bios was up to date.

thanks.

mine came up the same. i cant remember if i hit yes or no. But when i got back into windows it said i had to reset my PIN

after about an hour of googling leading to forums all over the place just hit Y in the end.

got windows installed after some battles woudlnt proceed without internet connection then forced me to log in and also had to create a pin.

This is because the CPU has been changed so the Firmware Trusted Platform Module has triggerd to say something is different here and if you use anything like finger print sensors, pin codes or Windows Hello to log in, it's operation is tied to TPM so it will default back to a password and you will need to set that up again essentially to say it's all ok. When changing the CPU you will need to say Yes and clear the fTPM and let it build a new database of keys as it will not be able to use the one built with different hardware. It's a security feature at the end of the day, true enough it's more useful on a corporate laptop than a home desktop but it's use has been included it more stuff by Microsoft since Windows 11 release, as this feature is why Microsoft have a cut off compatibility point 'officially' for Windows 11 as it 'requires' fTPM capability ...now you can disable it entirely and run without ...but you wont be able to use pin numbers or Windows Hello to log into a system using your Microsoft account for example.

Right thanks might disable it then hope its easy to do ? today i fitted new my gpu turned on the pc it went to a blue screen asking for bitlocker key heart in mouth moment, thankfully i found the new key in my microsoft account
but i don't want that again just for swapping a gpu in its a bit of pain putting that massively long number in.
