Asus TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WIFI (LGA 1700) DDR5 - (SKU MB-6JM-AS)

Hi, can anyone who has bought this motherboard lately tell me which bios version it is shipping with?

I will be putting in a 14900k which according to the Asus site is only supported from Bios version 1205 onwards. I don't have a previous gen cpu to put in while I flash the bios and this board doesn't have the bios flashback feature.

I'm already past my budget on this system (14900k, 4090, DDR5 etc) so can't really afford to spend any more on the M/B.

Thanks for any help.

What a pain this must be not knowing what bios the board comes with, if it was me i would just take it to a local pc shop and ask them to flash it to the latest 1402 bios.

If you shop around you can find the MSI Pro Z790-A WIFI cheaper than the board you mention plus it has USB bios flashback so you don'y need to worry about which version it ships with.

I put the question to overclockers and they don't know which bios it will have and they don't offer a bios flashing service. I notice there is a new TUF z790 PRO instead of plus mb which is ready for 14th gen but it's £100 more expensive and OC don't seem to stock it yet...

Are you against flashing using flashback? If you are, the cheapest board I've seen is the MAX version of the Z790-A.

Not against using bios flashback, may end up going that route. I'm not in a massive hurry so will probably see what happens with these new PRO boards. Maybe I can get it cheaper in a BF deal. Surprised OC don't have them yet tbh.

Gonna be hit or miss if it can power up 14th gen out the box, let alone use it properly - it would need at least a BIOS from June and from my buying experiences lately it'll be right on the borderline for that as to which BIOS is on there. If isn't on the official 14th gen supported BIOS but is on one of the BIOS versions updated to support "next gen Intel CPUs" (which are from approx. June) and you have a 14th gen with integrated graphics you "should" be able to get a display from the motherboard HDMI or DP outputs so as to update the BIOS but potentially won't be able to use anything on the CPU PCI-e bus i.e. discrete graphics until you do.

Having flashback support will hugely simplify things.

Yeah do the Flashback option.

It’s saved my butt when I borked a BIOS update on my X570 Tomahawk.

I won’t buy a motherboard that doesn’t have Flashback now.

It’s just easier than having to find an old CPU to borrow or pay for a BIOS update.

It looks like a rip off to me. I compared the specs of the Tuf Pro with the Tuf Plus and unless I'm missing something big, they're identical in every way. So you're paying some £150-£200 for a bios flash :o

If I was going to pay a lot of money for a Z790 board, I'd want something like the Z790 Creator, which at least gives you USB4 and 10Gb LAN.

I just bought the same motherboard and an i7 14700KF with and RTX4070... No POST. Stops with yellow DRAM light. Took it to a local PC shop to put in a 13th gen CPU and update my BIOS. Hopefully they succeed tomorrow!

My Z790 TUF D4 came with the oldest BIOS available (0602 from 09/22) but had no issues with it detecting the 13900K I put on it (not 14th gen obviously). Apparently (so I have seen), if put a 14900K on a board that hasn't had BIOS updated, it will display as a 13900K or KS depending on motherboard brand so should be able to still boot & flash a newer BIOS.
