Hey.

I am building a basic AMD Bulldozer value system but I have a question.

The motherboard in question is:
Asus M5A97 PRO AMD 970 (Socket AM3+)

and I am going to put in a hex core AMD Bulldozer. I have heard in many places that I need to update the BIOs on the motherboard else it wont work. Is this true? Can't I just 'plug & play'?

My question is - how can I do this if I havent got a older AMD CPU?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks. To be more specific the CPU is:
AMD FX-6 6100

I must have got confused with the new 8 core CPUs. I thought all AM3+ Bulldozer's have to have new BIOS on older motherboards.

On that list it was support since BIOS 0813 which was available since 2011.11.15 your board will have something newer than this.

Thanks again for the speedy response, it helped a lot. So, last questing ^^, is there no chance of getting the older version of the board?

Almost 0% chance.

Also the boards are the same, there doesnt appear to be a revision of it, its only the BIOS version/date that concerns you.
