Hi guys,

I received my Asus VE247H last week and I've had a chance to play with it over the weekend. It just doesn't look right...

To me it looks as though it's washed out with the colours being overly saturated (I'm not sure if this is an oxymoron).

I've spent hours trying to calibrate it and at best I've made it look dull but somewhat realistic. I know it's a budget monitor but I'm really struggling to enjoy gaming on it.

I do some photo editing (mostly use an rMBP for this) and on this monitor I just don't feel it would be possible at all.

Does anyone else have a problem with this monitor? I'm really considering returning it.

If I was to return it I was looking at this one - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoc-...descreen-led-monitor-black-red-mo-035-ao.html

I have an rx480 so the freesync makes sense. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks.

That's yet another TN panel. If it turns out there's nothing "wrong" with the unit you have, then you just probably prefer IPS panels with better colour reproduction and viewing angles.

With Freesync ranges sometimes beginning only at 48Hz on a lot of monitors, it can be pretty much pointless (depending on the model and its range). I'd take IPS over Freesync in your situation, unless you can find IPS + Freesync within budget.

@ShortWarning:

... Sorry to be blunt, but you purchased a cheap TN monitor, and now you're surprised that the quality is bad? :D

And now you're even thinking of replacing it with another cheap TN monitor? Please purchase a proper VA, IPS or PLS monitor. For example the Acer V246HQLB for £90.

Or if you want to have the FreeSync feature, then slightly increase your budget and get the Samsung C24F390 (£160) or Samsung S24E370DL (£170), or increase your budget slightly more for Samsung C27F390 (£210).

Or if you're shopping outside OcUK:
Samsung S24F350FHU
LG Electronics 23MP68VQ-P
Dell SE2717H
Samsung C27F396FHU

Personally, I'd suggest going for the Samsung C24F390 (£160).

The Acer V246HQLB is a VERY good deal for £90, as well, but it's not FreeSync. Also, for some reason OcUK states the viewing angles as 170/160, which is kind of odd for IPS, which are usually 178/178. So it might indeed be an inferior quality IPS, and that's the reason for the low price.

Thanks for your replies.

I appreciate it is a cheap monitor but I've used many cheap monitors in my time and none have had this problem out of the box.

I'm not sure it's a problem as such I just don't like the way the colours are displayed.

I definitely do prefer the look of IPS panels but I am used to using both and for the budget and the fact it will mainly be used for gaming I though best to go with a tn panel.
