Hi All

Anyone had any experience of this? Got the monitor on Wednesday - all was pretty good - 3d Ir worked, no dead pixels and I liked the 2d and 3d picture.

Then, after about 3 days use, a horrendous oval backlight bleed started. I found references to this exact problem (including the 2-3 day delay in the problem appearing) on an old forum (2011 to early 2012) on HardForum where people either returned the monitor or hung onto it hoping that the problem would fade (for some it appears it did). I have queried there in case but suspect that the contributors to such an old thread may not still be around....

Meanwhile if anyone here has come across this I would be grateful if they could share their experience and (hopefully) happy endings!

Can't share my experience's of that 'fault', but i have the same monitor since November 2011 i think and it's operated perfectly for me. No backlight bleed at all.

Hope you get it sorted. :)

Rich - that sounds promising - the bleed seemed endemic to the model (naturally most stuff out there was about problems), so your experience is good news.

Diagro - don't have my own pic yet - on top of everything else am starting a new job tomorrow so am running around like a headless chicken :)

However there are several representative pics on this thread of the forum I mentioned:

(hope it's ok post such links here - if not - apologies - no offense intended)

Mine had a slight oval shape in the centre but soon cleared itself up..

If I were you I would give it a few days with as much use as possible and see how it looks then.

Will give it a go! I know I have 7 days on the DSR - will have to check how long I can have for a replace-as-faulty scenario (was a rainforest purchase).

The monitor was perfect oN Wed & Thurs then the oval appeared on Friday. I noticed it watching a film with dark scenes. Now I can even just see it in bright games ... Since Friday I have left it on 24/7 with a screensaver when not actually in use.

How long did yours take to clear up? Did it fade away or expand to the edge so everything looked normal?

I have (its behind me in a box ready to return - again), however its a slightly diff model:
ASUS VG278HE - I'm not sure whether there's much of a difference in quality of screen, I get the same problem. It's not as bad as the post you have linked, but it has bleed from top/bottom and very slight from the sides. Very disappointed as I love the feel of the monitor.

I just cant watch movies on it!

Coolasmoo - do you recall how long your screen took to clear up?

MarkA - movies are unwatchable on mine too - in game it is distracting.... no change since Friday :( - I guess this is your second monitor? Was the first one returned for the same reason?

If mine doesn't improve by tomorrow night think I will have to return it and hope a new one is better. If not will go for another 27" (love that size) - but not 3d this time - real pity as I was actually wowed by that!

"When I was a lad" you usually wouldn't have had to jump through so many hoops to get a decent product when you've spent so much money!

Had this monitor since November. Read about the issue you described a lot but it seemed to only affect the early release models. Mine does not have the oval issue but does have back light bleed from top and bottom and sides. It doesn't bother me at all as i only see it on movies occasionally and even then, there are ways to reduce it.

Thanks ancient :) Sounds as if I was unlucky with the batch mine came from. Out of interest would you mind posting your settings if you have time? I have played around a lot with my settings but having just come from a CRT, I wouldn't be surprised if I'd gone about things completely the wrong way!

I came from a 40" bravia lcd so the monitor took a bit of getting used to. I use the standard mode for most things

brightness 87

contrast 85

tracer free 100

I adjusted things to how i like them using the destop settings in nvidia control panel. Once i had tweaked that, it has been ideal ever since.

Yep, it was my 2nd monitor. Basically both of them had the same issues. One of them came from ocuk, the other was from a replacement warehouse (i think). Both had the same issues unforunately!

Mine is going back today (DPD should be arriving today to pick it up) and ocuk are going to run their tests on it. I'm pretty sure they will see what we mean with the bleed.

I'm not even sure what monitor to buy instead of it yet, but I do need 27". It's much more relaxing to use than my 24.

Good luck with yours too!

Thanks for posting your settings ancient - much appreciated. Will use them on my next Asus - this one is going back - it's now got a bright vertical stripe as well as the oval - aargh!

MarkA - if my 2nd one doesn't work out I'll be looking for another 27" too - not sure what though... really do like the 3d but may have to let that go. Maybe the 120hz Iiyama? Do let us know what you end up with.

Anyway fingers crossed for a good 2nd Asus!

No worries man, i would stick with the asus until you get one you are happy with. I would expect backlight from sides and top, bottom but this is hard to avoid with led backlight monitors it seems. Let us know how you get on, the 3d gaming on this monitor makes it worth having.
