I am looking at this laptop, ASUS VivoBook Pro 16 NVIDIA RTX 4060, 16GB, 16" WQXGA 120Hz, Intel Core i9 13900H Laptop (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...-wqxga-165hz-intel-core-i7-lap-asu-00719.html) for my kid who is doing A-levels now and hopefully starting Uni next year. The specs are all fine for now, i9, decent storage, and within budget. To get 32GB RAM now the jump in price is quite steep.

However, I was hoping that I could upgrade the memory in the future...the laptop has 1 slot, with 8GB on-board and the other 8GB on a DDR5 SO-DIMM. So would that work fine if in the future I swap the 8GB stick with a 16GB or 32GB stick? I wouldn't have minded 1 slot, but the fact that half of it is in-built concerns me.

It should work perfectly. I remember Lenovo offering DIMMs larger than the on-board memory as an option on one range. That was with DDR4 and I believe it should work even better with DDR5.
