hi all,

thinking of going down the c2d route and wondred if any you have any advice on the motherboard or memory my thoughts are :

1, asus striker extreme nForce 680
2, c2d e6400 allendale / conroe
3, OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz SLI-Ready Dual Channel DDR2

or

1, Abit IN9 32X-MAX WiFi nForce 680
2, c2d e6400 allendale / conroe
3, OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz SLI-Ready Dual Channel DDR2

i was looking at the amd fx62 but was told that c2d would be better (easier to clock higher than fx62)
i am currently running sli with 2 x 6800gt's and want to keep these and also dont have the funds for new just yet, i also want to try overclocking for my first time so want good equipment to start with, if that makes sense

i am a noob so dont get to technical, or if you do could you explain with a bit of detail

thanks

I would personally just get the Asus 650i board and Geil PC6400 Low latency. It will save you £275 and clock just as well on air (3.2ghz should be easily possible, and 3.6 with very good cooling)... nearly enough for an 8800GTX ;)

Seconded

Btw many people make this mistake, but all 6k series core 2 duo's are conroes, the 4300 is the only true allendale i know at the moment...

I'm probably going to 3rd the 650i recommendation until 680i settles down some.
Slight twist though in that there are 650i SLI mobos due this month from abit, Gigayte & MSI so I would wait to see how they fair.
Tbh I don't expect them to be as cheap as the Asus but they should have things like socketed rather than soldered BIOS chips.
