Hi,

Asus ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO vs Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7?

Also to go with 6700K on the above is it worth spending the extra on Dominator MY-446-CS over Vengeance MY-445-CS or would you go for 32GB Ripjaw V's (Ripjaws V Series F4-3000C15Q-32GVR) which I can get for about £150?

When are the Corsair H115i's (HS-035-CS) due in stock?

Regards

Craig

I had the same issue on which board to choose.

Both are great boards. Asus has the better bios and fan control from the reviews I've read.

But Gigabyte have a much better warranty and customer support. And I just can't bring myself to deal with a company that doesn't treat it's customers right.

I'm probably in the minority but my experience of customer support has been fair with Asus and dreadful with Gigabyte. I appreciate Gigabyte has the better reputation, but it can go the other way.

As far as the boards go, both are great choices.

Honestly, I've come to terms with the fact that if my Asus Motherboard fails, I'd rather just buy a new one than go through the tortuous RMA procedure and be without a PC for at least 3 weeks.

I had this choice, the Gigabyte Gaming 7 has both Intel and Killer networking, also a Soundblaster Recon 3Di chip which eats any realtek cloaky branded offerings. The Asus does have better fan control as mentioned above.

Whilst i like asus boards, their reputation for support is poor. Gigabyte have a uk based setup. Great for warranty if you need it. But i do prefer the asus bios on boards.

My X58a-UD7 has been pretty solid for 6+ years, on the other hand I'm still running an ancient Crosshair, it only acts as my game server these days but it got some hammer when it was my main gaming rig.

+1, but Gigabyte have done me proud recently on servicing my dead z87-OC board, plus in the UK as said. I do like Asus boards, but dread it if something goes wrong. Asus support can be lethargic at best.

I had nothing but problems and boot loops with the last gigabyte I had, switched to Asus, no complaints so far. But that was Z68 hardware

Im running my first ever gigabyte board z170x g7 and im very happy with it, the bios was really easy to use and I clocked my 6600k with no problems at all.

Always had gigabyte board's there lovely to use. the only thing is fan control is poo, this as been the case from z87 in my experience and i have had z87 z97 x99 and z170 gigabyte boards.

just change to an MSI z170 board and i will very soon be changing back to gigabyte because this board is crap and over complicated in bios.

I went from asus to gigabyte and ive stuck with them for my last 3 boards now, i just like their bios more. Im using the z97 gaming 7, its a solid board. The only thing i ever found that i didnt like was that tweaklauncher didnt work with it.

Decision has been made and a Gigabyte Gaming 7 is on the way along with 16GB Dominator RAM.

Just need a Cooler, I was looking at the H110i then H115i and contacted Coolermaster to make sure they would fit my HAF932, they said yes but only with modification (drilling the case), so now looking at H100i V2 but that is currently Pre-Order status, got a webnote in asking if they know when they will be in stock.
