So i have emailed msi and they told me its ok to remove the reference cooler from msi r9 290 card it wont void the warranty. I cant contact asus because they need a lot of info, register blah blah and i cant find r9 290 on their webpage. Any1 has contacted them about the warranty regarding removing the reference cooler on the asus card? I am between these 2 cards, the performance is the same but asus has the voltage unlocked feature. I have never done any overclocking in my life, but just out of curiosity how many MHZ can the asus r9 290 hit with OC? OC the card will increase temps i guess? Also i think you cant flash asus bios on the MSI card or flash it to 290X. Correct me if i am wrong.

The only link i could find is this http://support.asus.com/warranty.as...0&m=R9290X-4GD5&os=&hashedid=VdhZpD6dLtdHe0xk

Well, while Asus do make great products, they rma service is not exactly well-regarded. You'd best go with MSI instead.

And regarding flashing 290 to 290x, only XFX, HIS, VTX/PowerColor will "have chance" of success...the rest of them brand, flashing to the Asus 290x bios will only make the stock clock at 1000MHz same as the 290x and unlock voltage tweaking (but doesn't unlock the extra shaders/stream processors).

Yeah i know about their rma service. It sucks. Well i guess i will go with the MSI which lets you remove the ref cooler and has a great rma service. Maybe in the future something will come up to flash msi 290 to 290x
