Which CPU is it? H110 is still restricted to 2133 with 6th gen, XMP can't bypass that, but 2400 is possible with 7th gen.

dam... yes it is a 6500.
i remember having 2666mhz but i did have a z170

Yeah, Z170 was unlocked for memory, but they didn't unlock other boards until 10/11th gen (B560), though I think H610 is still locked even now (it just doesn't matter unless you buy a DDR5 one: 4800 max with 12th gen).

I haven’t ordered my friend a 6th gen cpu yet. If I get a 7th gen will the ram run faster?

He needs an upgrade but can’t afford it so I was going to grab him a 6700 but I have get a 7700 for a few £££’s more

He would be moving from single channel 2133 to dual at 2400mhz and 6500 to 7700

That would feel a lot smoother in games ?

Moving from single channel to dual channel alone will be a huge boost in terms of memory bandwidth, but in terms of real world performance it will depend on the rest of the system. What GPU? HDD or SSD? Resolution?

It was a pre build system from a long time ago. it had a GTX780 but a few years ago he added a 5600xt

CPU i5 6500
GPU is a 5600xt
Storage is a 1tb MX500 SSD
Games at 1080p
and a single 8gb 2133 stick of green ram

He cant afforded a new system, i can afford ram and CPU for him. im looking at spending £80 for both
