...specifically on the Rampage IV Extreme but I suppose it's relevant to all.
Having recently bought a R4E and 3930k to upgrade my system I found out that my cooler - a Noctua NH-D14 - wasn't compatible with Socket 2011. Fortunately Noctua offer a free socket kit to existing owners (fantastic company!), and I have one on its way to me.
When I received the motherboard I noticed that ASUS seem to have some new thing called X-Socket which actually allows you to use incompatible coolers by unscrewing one socket and putting another on.
I'm probably overthinking this somewhat but given how heavy the NH-D14 is, would I be better off waiting for the fitting kit to arrive and using that rather than getting into attaching an older spec socket to my new motherboard? I can afford to wait a few days if needs be.
