Asus X800-XT Problems

I have had this card on a Asus P4P800-E board since Oct/Nov and it is constantly locking my PC when I run a game.

Depending on what Catalyst drivers I use I can sometimes recover if VPU recover pops up but that is rare, usually I get a garbled screen of colours before the monitor switches off (Dell 2405W).

I have tried every release of Cat since a year ago, Omega drivers, re-installation of windows, directx. It only happens when running games but not all. WoW, EQ2 all the time (sometimes within 2 minutes), BF2 and COD2 no problems at all or very rarely! All except BF2 resolution if at 1920*1200, but evening reducing all fancy options of resolution has no effect. DxDiag showed no errors.

I am :( and appreciate any assistance!

Hi, how are the temps on it I had one and it overheated easily as there wasn't enough air through case. I fitted an Arctic Cooling Silencer and that solved the problems. Also are you using Smartdoctor as it gives you temps, fan speeds and power read outs.

As I write it is at 58°c, doing nothing except write this post. Just downloading SmartDoctor at the moment.

Will post further results shortly but unless this SmartDoctor is able to log the values I won't be able to get results when I test with a full screen game :(.

Thanks

Thats high just for 2D work, I know that the shut down limit for Smartdoctor was 70 at default. If you want to get a rough guide while playing a game leave you temp software open on desktop and just ctrl, alt, delete to go straight back to desktop while game still runs. It will cool a bit as soon as you do that but you should get a rough idea. I would definately recommend an Silencer 4 Rev 2, had one on mine it clocked to 550/1150 and was still cooler than stock and a lot quieter.
