I built a system with the following components Sep 2014

Asus X99-A
Intel 5820K 3.30GHz
Corsair RM Series RM 750
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C16 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit
Corsair Hydro H90 140mm
Inno3D GeForce GTX 970
Samsung 512GB SSD 850 PRO

Build was fine and machine was fine from Sep 2014 till yesterday. Yesterday in morning started machine up as normal - no problem. Went out and when I returned the machine was off. Powered it back up and nothing - no beep code - no GPU bios message - no MB BIOS info. On inspection when the PSU is plugged in and switched on the MB power and reset led light. On pushing power led fans start up (GPU - CPU - case fans etc) but system remains on Q-code 00 and the CPU led on MB lights up. Have tried all the 'obvious' stuff. Reset cmos, chekecd psu power cables are seated properly, re seated CPU and cooler, tried with and without both RAM and GPU. All result in same behaviour. Have also tried flashbacking latest BIOS using USB stick but this seems to also be failing (hold flashback button for 3 sec - light flashes 7 times and stays on and never access USB stick - tried 3 diff sticks formatted fat32 and ntfs).

I have been assembling PC's for many years now and have never seen anything quite like this. My previous system based on Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X58 and Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz is still running fine.

I will later today be getting back my old system that I lent to a friend so I can try the PSU in that on this now dead system but I do not hold out much hope. I suspect both the MB and CPU have failed. My symptoms are worryingly similar to these

and

So now I am trying to decide how to proceed. Do I "suck it up" and buy replacement parts ? If I do , do I try replacement MB first ? Do I stick with the same ASUS MB as before (so that I can just rebooted my system without having to re install everything from scratch) or jump ship to a different MB maker (gigabyte ?). Do I try and RMA the MB and or the processor - after 7 months of usage and not having any of the original packaging ?

Posting here in desperation really and perhaps as a warning to others. Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

To update. Collected my old machine from friend I had lent it to. Plug it to power monitor and kb. Boot to bios - no problem at all. Power down and pull plug. Connect 24pin and 8 pin leads from old PC psu to new not working MB. Power up - same as before on the original PSU - all fans come one - cpu led light on - q code 00 - nothing on screen. Ok so I think that shows problem with new machine is not PSU. Plug the PSU back into the odl machine - power up - all fans and lights come on nut nothing on screen - wont post - no bleep codes - nothing. ARGGGGH. Check and recheck the 24pin and 8 pin power leads in securely. So it looks like not only did my asus x99-a MB fail after seven months it seems to have failed in a way that then damages any PSU you plug into it as well as probably having fried my CPU as well and who knows about ram and GPU! I am not a happy bunny at all. Guess my next step is to buy a brand new PSU and try it in the old machine - hopefully I can at least get that back and running. Very frustrated right now.
