Of all the challenging things in this build, i didnt think hdd detection of this type...would be one of them.

Bios 18.01 updated
CMOS Reset to defaults (Clear jumper on mboard and load setup defaults in bios)
2xSamsung 2TB HD203s

Using the same single power and single data cable in the same psu and motherboard sockets for testing both hdds.

HDD 1 is always detected in the bios
HDD 2 is never detected in the bios

HDD 2 is always detected on another machine and is working fine.

nightmare...any ideas?
Why would a motherboard bios not even detect a working HDD on a working PSU/data cable...

OMG what a ****show....

So if i dont attach the data cables, until after the drives have spun up...then press motherboard reset (so the drives dont power down)...the troublesome drive(s) are detected and work fine...

When I put a drive into a caddy with its own power connected via esata into mboard sata, the hdds is being sent some almighty reset command by the motherboard ...large hdd thuds are audible.

Well at least its starting to look like a confined problem...asus support are offline :-(.

Wonder why some drives are reliably spun up whilst others are not (under more more normal usage)....

I had the same problem when i updated the bios of the x99 PRO to 1801. I rolled back to 1702 and everything is fine now.
