Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the problems (USB mainly) reported in the 1st half of the year with Asus X99 boards have been sorted now. In particular the X99S. I'm considering the X99S/5820 bundle on OCUK.
If there are still problems, what about the MSI X99A SLI?

I recently did a 5820k/X99-Pro build and had no issues whatsoever, I'm not sure what USB issues people were referencing but I never experienced them. Managed to install Windows onto an M.2 drive just fine and such.

My only problem is on a cold boot it will light everything up, turn everything off, and then boot properly.

If you want the ASUS I would get the X99-A usb 3.1 a newer board and better Pci-e lane configurations.
Thanks I didn't realize this, 3.1 was one of the attractions of the MSI board - as a future proof.

Thanks Joe, it may be a case of you only hear of problems never when things go right. There were 3 or 4 separate threads on these forums between Jan and May this year where people couldn't get USB 3.0 to work. Also several outside these forums.
I favour Asus boards only because I've had them for the last 8-10 years.

Thanks for the positive feedback andybird123. Off to read some reviews of the Asus X99A now as I like the look of it.

My X99-S doesn't boot if my steering wheel or pedals are plugged in. Did try a lot of things suggested by Asus support and other people several months ago but never found a solution to the problem.

(It boots OK if my xbox 360 controller is plugged in but just got to make sure that my pedals and wheel are switched off when I turn my PC on.)

Asus do (or did) a USB 3.1 add-in card with their Asus X99-Deluxe, you plug it into a PCI-e slot and it gives you 2 USB 3.1 ports. I'd imagine if you asked support you could persuade them to sell you one, as I believe they intended to do that anyway.

There are still problems with some X99 motherboard detecting certain peripherals, not sure if its just Asus or all X99 motherboards ?

I purchased an Asus Rampage V Extreme about 4 weeks ago, and have been fighting with this problem, up until recently.

It would never boot when I had certain peripherals plugged in, in my case, Thrustmaster Warthog, throttle & stick, and also my Saitek combat pro rudder pedals.

But, I have now solved this problem, in the bios menu, there is an option called "Fast Boot" and when you enable this, it gives you the option to disable the USB ports, for faster boot times.

But when it enters windows, all the ports are enabled again.

Problem solved :)

Have a look in your bios, to see if you have this option, hope it sorts it out for you all.

Maybe this is why I never had an issue then, I've had that enabled since I first entered the BIOS :p

My X99-DELUXE and Windows 8.1 have had huge problems during boot, supposedly related to USB devices, but removing them all or changing ports rarely made a difference.

Usually it got stuck on the "dos" screen where the cursor in the top left corner blinks immediately prior to the windows logo boot screen. When it got stuck there, the cursor would not jump down one line and then it stood there until i reset.
It also sometimes got stuck on the blue windows logo, the spinning loader would not appear, only the logo was showing. When that happened all I could do was to reboot.
I sometimes had to reboot up to 10 times before getting windows to load, also had times it helped to cut power entirely by unplugging the power cord.

Anyways, it has not happened at all since upgrading to Windows 10, so looks like it was a windows issue in my case.

My mouse sometimes stop working and I have to take it out and put it back to get it working again. The mouse work fine in any other pc though.
And if you are getting a Deluxe, please don't upgrade to 1901 bios. Don't know why with 1801 or lower I can get my 5960X working stably at 4.6Ghz with 1.288v. With 1901, same overclocking setting, no boot at all.

Not getting Deluxe. I have decided the 99A USB 3.1 suits my needs. It will be interesting to see how my wireless keyboard and mouse (quite old now) work in USB 2.

I had a problem with the Deluxe not booting (Post error 61 or something) until I unplugged /everything/ from the USB ports. This appears to have been fixed in BIOS 1701 or 1801 not sure.
One thing I noticed is that the USB 5V rail is not protected at all; if you have a powered hub, it will backpower the 5V rail on the mobo, and that can create all kind of problems.

I was *amazed* when I realized that BTW. That means that if you think that pulling the plug to let the caps discharge when you play with the board, change memory etc etc actually if you have a powered hub, you are doing it on a live 5V rail... (!)
