I've moved from my X-Fi which I thought was good, but now it has been trumped. I've been fiddling for about half an hour getting the EQ to how I like it and I'm amazed. Songs are much more vibrant and clear compared to the X-Fi. Really pleased as I think it's final showing my Hi-Fi setups true potential. :D

I wasn't happy with the default settings, but since tweaking, it sounds great! Anyone thinking of buying one definately should.

One happy customer here! (Vista x64 with beta drivers).

Install was quick and painless and the software is precise, not too many options and it doesn't install 50 services and startup items. lol.

Still have horribly low sound output here. It all works fine but it's so quiet!

Ahh sorry to hear that, I wonder why that is. I'm guessing all volume levels are right up in the software and windows?

Which X-fi did you have?

I'm really tempted by the Xonar but I'm trying to justify the cost to replace my X-fi Fatal1ty and your post gave me hope :D Is it really that much better?

I have the X-Fi Music (one of the first ones without a heatsink on the chip). I honestly thought it wouldn't be that much better. So I've been music-less for about 3 days now. And I honestly don't remember the music sounding this clean before...

So at the moment I'm going through listening to different music types to fine tune the EQ but acoustic stuff is crisp and vocals are nice and clear. Definately not worse than the X-Fi and imo it's better! :D

Got it installed and hooked up to the digital input on my speakers this morning and WOW! :D

There's a definite improvement in sound quality over the X-fi.

The installation did have a slight hitch and I expect that anyone with nForce 680i based motherboards will find the same thing if they get the D2x PCI-E version. On the P32 bios, it refused to see the card and reported error code 12 in device manager on the PCI - PCI-E bridge chip, saying it didn't have enough resources.

This URL will easily fix the problem:

Cool, another convert. lol. :D

I've been fiddling some more and realise that if you select Hi-Fi there is a different sound over if you select Music. I think on Hi-Fi it turns off all the DSP effects, which I prefer. I still use EQ on top of that though and the FlexBass. :p :o

@ firegod

Will I notice any improvements for Css or games with my Sennheiser HD595 coming from a Xfi Xtreme music?

thanks

Tough one. Tbh games to me sound the same, just been playing Gears Of War and it sounds similar to when I had the X-Fi in. Music is definately better. But gaming, hard to say.

I haven't tried my Sennheiser cans yet with the soundcard, so that's maybes something to try so I can then comment on the soundquality a bit more.

But games seem fine. I haven't played CSS so can't really comment though. :)
