Well finally upgraded my pc .
I bought a gigabyte X570 aurus master
Ryzen 3900xt. 32gb corsair vengence

Old pc I7 920 overclocked to 4gb
Gigabyte x58 ud5
24gb corsair vengence.

Can any body help should i use my xonar d2x in my new setup or use the on board sound.

How good is the sound on new motherboards?

You’ve upgraded to the same set up as me. Sadly I had to pull the D2X out as it was randomly bluescreening, rebooting the machine as it has compatibility issues with AM4.

For me the onboard sound bass wise especially on the Master is extremely poor compared to the D2X. I’m using the old Z5500 system the bass used to vibrate the room now it’s weak. A friend has the exact system and speaker setup with the same issues.

I’m currently thinking about getting an alternative card to the onboard sound though unsure what to go for.

Thanks for the reply . I to am using the z5500 speakers.
I will give the card a go and let you know if I run into the same issues.
Haven't played much with the set up since building last week not even played with overclocking yet.
Spent all my free time getting my head round win 10.:confused:

If you end up pulling the card let me know if your bass quality drops please.

Below is from another forum member regarding the D2x and AM4.

Also that ASMedia PCIe-PCI bridge chip isn't good for compatibility with AM4 boards...
Many of which use chipset made by ASMedia...”

Asus Xonar D2X works perfectly for me on a X570 since I bought the system in Set 2019! it ONLY works on up to Win 10 build 1909 though. Currently Win10 build 2004 does not support the card & has sound issues with lots of other sound cards as well due to MS terrible recent QA (or lack of!!).

I recently upgraded my mobo and tried using the onboard sound but it wasn’t a patch on the d2x so I put it back in.

Sounds great with my Z5500 5:1 system.

if I replaced the d2x with a more modern card would I notice any improvement?

used mainly for gaming and watching movies
