The Xonar HDAV1.3 features Protected Audio Playback Systems (PAPS) and full Advanced Access Content System (AACS) certification. Without both of these certifications, typical PCs will need to downsample Blu-ray audio to DVD quality (48K/16bit). By closely working with ArcSoft´s Total Media Theater, ASUS´ Xonar HDAV1.3 is capable of decoding Blu-ray movies and takes full advantage of lossless digital audio formats such as Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ for professional, high-fidelity sounds at 24bit, 96-192Khz. The PCI Express based Xonar HDAV1.3 is designed from the ground up for next generation home theater PCs (HTPC); and is equipped with the proprietary AV200 audio processor and HDMI1.3a certified Splendid HD video processor – making it capable of delivering the highest quality 7.1 channel 192K linear pulse code modulation (LPCM) audio and high definition video through the HDMI port.

That's going to be a bit painful on the wallet...think I'm going to have to hold off for a while :(

deluxe version just adds analog input on a pci bracket i think. Yeah price is steep, £65 ish more than original xonar, asus said slightly higher price, 50% isn't slightly higher imo.

Auzentech's hdmi soundcard should be out very soon too, cant wait for reviews comparing them, price war might happen hopefully.

£176! Pretty steep just to get HD audio over HDMI. You can almost buy a standalone bluray player for that! I guess that's what you've got to pay to be an earlier adopter though. In 12 months I reckon HDMI audio will be available built into the motherboard, think I can wait until then.

no monkeynut, the db levels and other specs are much better than the current xonar/auzentech/creative cards out there too. But obviously rather expensive. Im sure once the auzentech is out there will be a price war and these will go down to £135.

Ah reet thanks. Does anyone know whether these will be supported under Linux? If so onece I get some cash in then I'll grab one.

What's ridiculous is that for the same price you can near enough get a BD player or build a HTPC. The only reason you buy this card is for digital output so any upgraded analog parts are pretty redundant.

Well you could use the digital for your amp and the analog for your headphones, if you have a decent pair of cans you would appreciate it. :)

No, you could use digital out to a high end DAC, then from that into a Hi-Fi pre-amp, then the tape out to headphone amplifier, pre-outs to poweramps.

Analogue outputs aren't used if you want uber quality

No. If it's PCM - from CD it's sent as PCM. If it's from a DVD then yes it's compressed but whether the soundcard or av pre-amp decodes it, it's still compressed. If it's HD audio then use HDMI output so that's original and your av pre-amp will decode that. Although I guess if it's for movies you won't have a stereo DAC, as that will only accept upto 44.1khz PCM.

what they quote is exactly the same which is a given when they are the same burr brown and cirrus chips. even the LM4562 opamps are the same ones found on the d2 and d2x.

output might well be a little cleaner over hdmi but what they've quoted isnt any better than the original d2/d2x. claimed output distortion is better but id like to see some tests before believing anything:)

you should be getting the dx to be honest, they are so close that you wouldnt notice unless you had them side by side, and the dx is much better value for money:)

I would love the functionality of one of these but I can't justify that cost given that I've recently paid £100+ for the Xonar D2X. What frustrates me more (and I've said this in another thread so forgive my repetitiion) is that plenty of cards on the market including the Xonar DX and D2X would be more than capable of handling HD audio over analogue but they are prevented from doing so by artificial caps imposed because of restrictions in software.

The two big questions which raise doubts over the need for this card for me are:
Will HD audio over analogue ever be made possible on PC.
Why should I buy this rather than add a bit extra and get a standalone Blu-Ray player?

sounds sick I bet, but 170 for sound?

I thought 50 was a lot for my card.

I will wait until they are around 100 and get me one. or once I have a bluray writer.
